4 Date: April 23, 2008 General Course Summary: This course is designed to provide the dental practitioner and staff a review of medical risk assessment in patients that present with positive medical histories. A review of systems approach will be used to provide a review of: data collection, data analysis regarding common diseases, the pharmaco- therapeutics that might be involved, the risk of detal procedures as well as suggested treatment plan modifications. Dr. Meiller will provide information regarding collection of appropriate medical and physical data and integration of information into plans and practices relevant to the routine management of patients in dental practices. The review will include major medical systems and will focus on evidence based dentistry (EBD). What is evidence based dentistry and how is it relevant to your practice and your patients? Particular emphasis will be placed on clinical management and treatment. At the completion the attendees should be confident in their review of these subjects and be confident to address medical, physical, and psychological conditions that impact the practice of dentistry. In addition, special topics will be discussed related to understanding the current guidelines for chemo-prophylaxis of endocarditis, appropriate use of antibiotics, and the MRSA evidence and questions related to bisphosphonate therapy.
